Pick the winners from your ideas portfolio

gold.jpgSo, you’ve got loads of ideas and need a way to work out which ones are the winners. After all, you don’t have the resources to develop more than a few of them and you can’t afford to pick the wrong ones!

This scenario can occur in companies that tend to be good at idea generation but not so good at idea assessment and development.

Typically, we hear clients say:
  • We've got more ideas than we can handle
  • How can we work out which ideas have the most potential?
  • How can we compare different kinds of ideas (eg products against services)?
  • How can we sort out the wheat from the chaff – and do it quickly?
  • We don’t have a system to handle ideas.
  • Our ideas tend to be too poorly defined to develop and assess.

These situations call for a rigorous system through which ideas can be funnelled. Think of it like panning for gold. The gold panner is very gold_panner.jpgcareful about discarding anything that might be of value and washes his ore several times to improve it. This is the kind of approach we take, a “multi-stage/gate process”. But we have an advantage over the gold panner: we can be alchemists! Each time we “wash” ideas, those that survive can be creatively improved to help them achieve their full potential.

Large ideas portfolios need to be put through a series of assessment gates and development stages in this way: reducing the quantity and improving the quality of your ideas. Only then will the potential winners emerge.

The Arrow programme is designed to help companies with this kind of problem. Click on Arrow in the programmes panel. Arrow is suitable for companies and ideas portfolios of all sizes.
