Innovation: Do your Managers Have the Tools for the Job?

Posted on Tuesday, 10 February 2009 11:57AM by John Chambers

When you employ a forklift driver or a computer operator, you make sure that they know what they are doing before you let them loose.  If they haven’t done these jobs before, you train them – providing them with the tools for the job.

When you employ a manager, what do you want him or her to do?  Not to use their hands, but their heads.  In other words, you want them to think! But how many of your managers have been trained how to think?  Can you afford to let them loose without giving them the tools for the job?

In every company it is managers’ thinking that generates real wealth from resources.  Of all skills, thinking is the most strategic: improve thinking skills and the value added will improve dramatically.

At this time of economic crisis, you expect your managers to deliver more than ever before.  You want them to achieve more with fewer resources, find new ways to compete in a smaller market, stay ahead of the competition.
Have your managers got the tools for innovation?

We can show your managers how to improve their thinking skills.  We can give them the tools they need to be able to innovate effectively: to overcome the problems, create new ways to compete, improve performance.

Are any of the following issues on your agenda?  If so, then let us show your managers how to tackle them:

          • a new strategy to drive the business forward
          • innovative new products or services that are based on your strengths
          • better, more effective ways to use critical resources
          • the need to keep ahead in competitive or fast-moving markets
          • how to maintain margins in a static or mature industry
          • pressure to improve performance from powerful customers
          • breaking through the mind-sets that plague your business

Ring any bells?  Your key people can help you rise to these challenges: but only when they learn to think in new, innovative ways and turn that thinking into practical results.  We can show them how to do this.  And think for a moment of the value you will unlock when you put into action plans to tackle these issues in your business.

Think also of the value of teaching your key people how to innovate more effectively.  These are skills that will remain with them and that they will be able to use the next time you need some fresh thinking in your business.
