Business survey shows that creativity is not an option!

Posted on Monday, 29 June 2009 10:13AM by John Chambers
In a recent study of business leaders’ attitudes towards creativity and innovation, 96% of respondents cited creativity as integral to business success.  Over 40% placed more value on creativity as a source of business advantage than on those traditional deliverables of knowledge and efficiency.

However, only 10% discuss creativity at board meetings and more than half fail to have someone responsible for it in their business.

Saying that something is important is one thing: doing something about it is quite another.

When I want to approach a new company, I start with their website.  Very often, the chief executive will list the company’s values or mission statement, and these will invariably make some reference to the importance of creativity or innovation.  Yet, if I mention this to the chief executive, I so often get a blank response!  It isn’t part of the culture, it just makes good reading!

How does your company compare with these findings ?

I believe all this underlines the fact that UK companies genuinely believe that creativity and innovation are critical to business success, but that they don’t have the tools to put that belief into practice.

As the survey goes on to say, despite its esoteric reputation, creativity can be taught.  Despite its non-linear thought processes, creativity can be systematised.  At Sword Ibis, we have been helping companies to put creativity into action for over twenty years.  We have a range of effective, easy to apply tools to improve the creative thinking of your people and to help you breakthrough into higher levels of performance in your business.

So, if you really want to benefit from the creative power of your people, get in touch and we will show you how to put creativity to work in your company.
